Somervell County Expo

On September 18, 2024, Glen Rose ISD Board of Trustees exercised the district’s Right of First refusal regarding the sale of the Expo by Somervell County to AJ Investments. Upon exercising this right, GRISD assembled a committee to lead a feasibility study on the property to ascertain what would be best for Expo moving forward.  This committee was able to provide valuable input from many perspectives to ensure the best decision would be made for Glen Rose ISD and the community of Glen Rose.

After much consideration and communication with AJ Investments and the Expo Committee, Glen Rose ISD has decided to terminate/waive our right of first refusal with the sale of the Expo from Somervell County to AJ Investments. In conjunction with the waiver, Glen Rose ISD has entered into a new agreement with AJ Investments.

The district was able to secure access to the Expo Center for 25 days for school use each year. These days were included in a 99-year lease agreement. Glen Rose ISD will also retain its right of first refusal if AJ Investments decides to sell the property in the future. AJ Investments has graciously donated $500,000 to Glen Rose ISD to terminate/waive our first right of refusal. These funds will go into the General Operating budget and will offset a portion of the deficit budget.

Community members who served on the committee were Marilyn Phillips, Tryce Berend, Mary Collier, and Aaron Yeager. Their time and guidance helped our board of trustees through this process, and we would like to thank them for their commitment to this great community and school.

Thank you,

Trig Overbo
